Bakti Desa: Vertical Garden

On 3rd January, my grade did a small scale version of KKN (Student Study Service) in Cibeureum, Kertasari, Bandung. The purpose of this event is to share our knowledge and help local people to improve their lives and motivate them toward self-development. Also, linking academic study with the practical experience of community service.

From the three day stay, I gained some observation about the village. Which is, a lot of the farmers in Cibeureum have a farm, either in their own land or in their own backyard. And it needs quite lot of space.

For at least one farmer have a farm and the place for it, they can use the vertical garden method. Which is a garden that grows upward (vertically) using a trellis or other support system, rather than on the ground (horizontally). All of them have the possibilities for it, because they can use the walls in their house

The pros of vertical garden method is a work of art (they can double as artwork or home decor on a bare wall), more options for those with limited space, reduce clutter, and cleaner air. Of course, you can't avoid the cons which are limited growing space and it dries quickly.
